School Waiwai Tour to Build Pilina

We designed a historical school tour and campus brochure highlighting special places on our campus to share its unique history with students and visitors. Our project targeted the student body’s low school pride and the broader community’s lack of knowledge about our school. We identified the rich cultural history of our school, having been founded by Queen Emma in 1867, as the waiwai in our community. To honor the voices of our community members, we hosted a waiwai mapping activity for students in our upper school Interact Club, enabling them to highlight places on campus that felt special to them. We also interviewed current faculty, alumni, and students so that we could include their insights in our tour. Ultimately, we curated a historical campus tour and delivered it to three audiences: high school students from Hiroshima Jogakuin High School, Aotearoa visitors from the 2025 Hawaiki Atua Youth Leadership Initiative, and Priory students at our school’s 2026 Exhibition Fair.
